Review: Paddletek Tempest Wave Pro Paddle
Hey Pickle People!
I had the amazing opportunity to try out the Paddletek Tempest Wave Pro and it really is one of the premier paddles in the game right now. I put this paddle right up there with the Selkirk AMPED Epic X5 FiberFlex Paddle and many say it may even be the most complete paddle in the game. You guys know I like paddletek and I think they have been putting out great products over the years. The Tempest Pro is no exception with its new revamped design and great play feel.
Head
It is really amazing how much the technology has evolved over the pickleball sport in just a short amount of time. There was a time when many people were using only wood and Nomex and now people are using polymer and carbon fiber heads. Don’t get me wrong, each of the different cores have their own strengths and weaknesses, but this polymer core paddle has one of the nicest touches in the game. The level of control you can get with this paddle is mind boggling and the best part is: you don’t sacrifice any of the power. You can hit kill shots from all over the court and not even have to worry about your control by the net. This is an amazing all around paddle and excels at pretty much everything on the court. I do like to play more of a finesse game with this paddle, because I can pick my shots better and have more control, but I honestly think you can play any style with this paddle.
Handle
I have had no problems with this paddle and the grip and overall feel are really quite nice. Like most of the paddles I review this is a solid handle that lets you feel like you are in control of every shot. I love the feel of the sweet spot through the handle of this paddle and the amount of control you get when you are hitting there. I do like this handle a little more than the Selkirk AMPED Epic paddle I have because it is a bit more ergonomic feeling.
Overall Impressions/Specs
Amazing all Around Game
Great mix of Power, Finesse and Control
Solid Build throughout
I think this is one of the top paddles out there and definitely one of the best paddletek has put out. The original tempest wave was a really nice paddle and this new revamped design is nothing short of that. I definitely think it is a little pricey and you can get quality Paddletek paddles for cheaper (ie the Bantam series) but if you are looking for a higher performance paddle in the upper price range this can definitely be a paddle for you. This core feels really nice throughout all the different shots and the mix of power and control is really quite amazing. You can really tell Paddletek put a lot of thought into both the performance and the playability of this paddle.
