Review: Rally Tyro 2 Pro Pickleball Paddle

Hey Pickle People here’s another review!

I had the awesome chance this past weekend to get my hands on the Rally Tyro 2 Pro paddle. I borrowed it from a friend and probably played about 6 or 7 games with it. I know I haven’t used it for all that long, but I will give you my first impressions of this paddle and if I think you may want to use it or not! This is a lower to midrange paddle that will run around 60 - 80 dollars depending on where you get it.

Head

The head is a pretty standard shape and has a relatively think shock wrap around the outside. I like to have this wrap be a little thinner because it can get in the way of some hits at the edge of the paddle, but some like it thicker. I do like the texture of the paddle. It is more of a matte finish and it really feels like you get good contact with the ball at any point. I also like how the finish is uniform on the face so it seems like the ball will come off the same from anywhere you hit it.

Handle

This handle is a nice shape and well made. Also he pre-installed grip on it is nice to the touch, but I’m sure you can change this depending on your preference. I have run into problems with the handles on some paddles at or around this price point, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem here. I have seen some people re-grip the handle and have really given a custom feel to their paddle, but overall I think the stock handle is just fine for everyday play.

Overall Impressions

  • Great for the price

  • Consistent solid hits and nice handle feel

  • Even Face texture makes spinning the ball consistent

Overall I really enjoyed playing with this paddle and I think that it makes a solid beginner/intermediate paddle as a first paddle or even an upgrade from your old paddle. It isn’t heavy, but it isn’t super light. I can imagine if you are playing the entire day your wrist might start to get a little tired because of the weight. The face and contact seems solid and reliable and the thin shock guard let me hit just about every shot I wanted. I liked the texture and thought it allowed me to uniformly spin any ball I wanted in any direction without too much deviation between hits. It was overall a great experience and I am thinking about adding this to my collection or maybe even buying it as a gift for one of my buddies who wants to play with me.
