Review: Amazin' Aces Pickleball Paddle Set

Hey Pickle People!

I had the chance to tryout my friends Amazin’ Aces Pickleball Set a couple weekends ago and wanted to do a review on this beginner Pickleball set. This set comes with 2 paddles, some balls, a mesh bag and apparently an eBook about Pickelball (my friend said it is not the best book he has ever read, but its about pickleball, so how bad could it be?) I played about 4 games with the paddle and played with one of the set’s ball for one of the games. This review will be my overall impressions of the build of the paddle and the balls in both play quality and feel.

Head

This paddle has a pretty standard face size and a rather thick shock guard (which comes standard with most beginner paddles) which takes the shock out of the paddle when you hit on the edge of the face, and also protects the edges from scratches. As you know I am not a fan of the large shock guard because I feel like it alters the shots I hit on the edge, but as I was playing I actually didn’t notice it that much and the contact with the ball felt solid and I could get all the power I wanted into the hits. The face more of a smooth painted finish and is not really built for a finesse game. There isn’t much texture to hit too much spin on the ball, but it is doable.

Handle

Overall this is a sturdy handle and I like it much more than the niupipo. It feels like a high quality paddle and the grip that comes standard has a nice feel when you are getting your hits in. It can be re-wrapped easily to fit preference and I have no complaints here. One thing that can be noted is the weight of the paddle is very noticeable when swinging this paddle (8.3 oz). Compared to the more intermediate to pro paddles you can really feel the weight. I would not recommend this paddle if you are a smaller player because it will slow your swing speed and hinder your net approach and dink game.

Balls

These balls are your average pickleball balls and they will do the job. I do recommend getting higher quality balls, but these will work fine if you are just trying to hit around. These are outdoor balls so keep that in mind. If you are playing indoors these might not be the balls to use (although you can still use them). I did a review of pickleball balls here if you wanted to know more about the different balls!

Overall Impressions/Specs

  • Solid beginning set with everything you need

  • Great power shots, not too much finesse

  • Great handle, but a little heavy

I think this is a great beginner set and will do everything you need if you are just starting to get the feel for Pickleball. The paddles are solid and the balls work if you are just trying to play some casual games. After using many different paddles like the Amazin’ Aces I will always recommend a more intermediate paddle like the Bantam EX-L of the Onix Z5 because you get so much more performance out of those paddles that you won’t really feel until you use them, however, that does not mean these are completely viable paddles for some family pickleball fun. Overall these are great paddles to bring along anywhere and to introduce new players to the game.
