Review: Gamma NeuCore Compass Pickleball Paddle

Hey Pickle People here’s another review!

Today I am reviewing the Gamma NeuCore Compass Pickleball Paddle! The compass is probably a paddle you see around at your local pickleball courts and I have been waiting to get my hands on one for a while. It is a very popular paddle and many usually associate it with the long face shape of the paddle. I usually use the standard paddle face shape, so it took a bit of getting use to. I played a good couple days with this paddle so I hope to give you a great in depth review of the Gamma NeuCore Compass Pickleball Paddle!

Anyway, now into the review!

Power: 8/10

The compass has really nice pop and you can really hit quality power shots. One thing that I look for in a more premium paddle is consistency in power shots and the compass is able to provide very reliable power at every location on the court. One thing that you need to be aware of on this type of face is that there is a change in the shape of the sweet spot. For someone like me who has been using a more square faced paddle I am use to being able to hit a nice shot even if my paddle is not perfectly in the centered with the ball. With a thinner paddle you find that the sweet spot is narrower, but also longer, so the shots that hit more toward the end of the paddle come off nicer and the ones before that you could hit more to the side of the sweet spot on a more traditional paddle.

Control: 8/10

The change in face shape also affects the control of the paddle. I feel like I have much more reach around the court and shots that might be out of reach for a standard paddle, I was able to control with the longer face. Now this change of length will not account for being out of position, but it will help for balls that are a bit father on your swing reach. With more vertical paddle face I was able to hit with much more topspin (coming up from behind the ball) and also felt just the overall built made it easy to control the ball.

Forgiveness: 8/10

This section was a bit tough for me, because when I started to use this paddle I was hitting many balls on the sides of the paddle due to the change in face shape. However, after a while I got the hang of the shape and thought the paddle was quite forgiving when it came to hitting shots not on the sweet spot. Overall since many people tend to hit balls with the top of the paddle (maybe because of a switch from tennis or racquet ball) the longer face can really be a saving grace.

Overall: 24/30

  • Large sweet spot

  • A blend of great performance

  • Great reach

I really loved using this paddle and once I got the hang of different shape I could definitely see this being a main paddle for me. I loved the pop of the face as well as the elongated sweet spot for more control. For many that have played with square face paddles and just need a bit more reach, this can be a perfect paddle. The thing that I really appreciated is that you really cannot tell you are playing with a long paddle. In every way it feels like a standard, but also premium paddle with extra reach and a spin capabilities.
