Review: Paddletek Bantam TS-5 Pickleball Paddle

Hey Pickle People!

One of my main paddles that I have in constant rotation is the Paddletek Bantam TS-5 (the standard, not the pro version, I hope to do a review of the pro when I get my hands on it!). This was my first Paddletek paddle and ever since, I have considered Paddletek one of the premier paddle makers in the pickle ball field and this is one of the more solid intermediate models they have made over the years. This paddle is right in mid price range and does not disappoint in terms of performance.

Head

The craziest thing about this paddle is how solid it feels while being so extremely light (7.0 - 7.5 oz). I love how you have full control of the paddle and it does not slow down your approach game in any way. I can see this paddle being a great option for those who have weaker wrists or elbows, because it does not put as much stain on the joints, but still gives you amazing playability. The face has a matte finish and can allow for a more finesse game, but I really think this paddle shines in its power play. The great thing is you can get power on shots that shouldn’t have power because its weight allows you to get the paddle there on time and the solid head allows for great contact.

Handle

Paddletek’s stock handles are allows extremely comfortable and playable right when you get it. I have never re-gripped a Paddletek paddle, but it looks like it could be easily re-gripped to fit any preference. I keep talking about the weight (because it is so crazy light), but mostly because with the correct handle grip it almost has no strain on the wrist. The Paddle grip is a little short and there will not be any two handed backhands, but overall it is great for one handed players.

Overall Impressions/Specs

  • Amazing performance for intermediate paddle

  • Great power and approach

  • Crazy light, easier on joints

  • Approved as a “Quiet Paddle” for sound regulations

I love the Bantam TS-5.

You can make every shot both in the back of the court and at the front and can fit any game out there. The approach is that much quicker and the movements are that much easier with this super light paddle. I would classify this paddle as more of a power paddle, but I am also able to hit any shot you want on the court with confidence. For the price this paddle I think it is a steal for anyone to make as their main paddle or even to get and be a part of your rotation. Now for the people that like to hold a more weighty paddle, this is not going to be the choice for you, but if you want the power along with the mobility, this is an amazing choice.
